Gift of the Givers assist Masiphumelele Township Fire victims.

They were waiting in the cold and rain, huddled together, traumatised, hungry, thirsty, awaiting a glimmer of hope, as they pondered their lost life's possessions; 252 dwellings destroyed, 1200 people homeless, 1 deceased, this was the end result of a fire that engulfed the people of Masiphumelele Township yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Pam Tshwete, accompanied Gift of the Givers teams as we visited the victims, distributed hot meals, bottled water and blankets. Today we served breakfast, a nutritious hot lunch will follow later. Distribution of blankets, mattresses, sanitary pads and diapers will continue. Stationery and uniforms especially for matric students, new clothing, food parcels, hygiene packs and cooking utensils will follow once people rebuild their homes.
