World Press Freedom Day was held in Lilongwe. The event went well with the distribution of food parcels and blankets to Kamuzu Central Hospital and awarding of various prizes to journalists during the Gala Dinner held at Sunbird Capital Hotel.
Keynote Speakers in the evening were Dr. Justin Malewezi, former Vice President of Malawi and Hon Mr. Moses Kunkuyu, Minister of Information. Other speakers were MISA Malawi National Chairman and National Director as well as Ms. Georgina Pangani of Gift of the Givers Foundation.
Distribution of Foodstuffs & Blankets to Paediatric Ward:
A consignment of Likuni Phala (Corn Soya Blend), Sibusiso Ready Food Supplement and new Blankets was handed over to the Registered Nurse / Midwife, Mr. Patrick Limole in the presence of MISA Board official, Mr. Lewis Msasa, and a number of reporters from Zodiak Broadcasting, Capital FM, Joy Radio, The Nation Newspapers, The Daily Times Newspapers and MBC-Television.
Evening Function at Sunbird Capital Hotel:
The function started with the arrival of the Guest of Honour, Minister of Information, Hon Moses Kunkuyu.
Dr. Justin Malewezi delivered a special keynote address after speeches from Georgina (GOTG), MISA Director, MISA Chairman, Airtel Director and UNESCO Rep, in that order.
The last person to give a speech was the Information Minister.
Awards were given to journalists and Media Houses that had done well the preceding year with GOTG awarding two Laptops and Shields to reporters in the Chichewa and Photojournalism categories, respectively, and two Digital Cameras and Shields in the Investigative Journalism categories, respectively.
Total Value of the entire donation, i.e. foodstuffs, blankets and awards came to approx. ZAR63,000.
